THE NIGHT OF THE UNEXPECTED
The Night of the Unexpected is a one night festival in which the diversity
and dynamics of the contemporary music practice are fully featured and
explored. The format encompasses composed classical music, improvised
music, pop music, electronic dance music and performances in which music is
combined with visual arts are all included.
For this event, a specific type of presentation has been developed that
creates an unexpected, direct relationship between audience and artists.
The programme is directed as a sequence of short performances without
intermissions. The stage as the traditional domain of the artist is often
traded in for a more integral position closer to the audience and one that
explores the specific characteristics of the performance space. Programme
director is Roland Spekle.
The Night of the Unexpected focuses on new developments in contemporary
music. In a tightly directed succession, the program cross-cuts through
styles and genres, varying from experimental beats and electronics to
composed repertoire and conceptual pop music.
With Pan Sonic, Talibam!, Knalpot, Wlbert Bulsink and Thomas Myrmel,
Lunapark, Andre Avelas Octet, Yu Tao, Sensational and Spectre, Huba de
Graaff, Amsterdams Bach Consort, Los Siquicos Litoralenos, Jan-Bas Bollen,
Robin Hayward and Martijn Tellinga, Steve Shaw. And with works of Luigi
Nono, Brian Eno, Aphex Twin and others.
