Just announced, 2 PhD positions for the Verdione / World Opera Project
in Tromsø located within the Computer Science department in Tromsø.
Verdione is a collaborative research project that aims to develop
robust video processing and dependable networking support for a world-
wide mixed-reality stage at the World Opera. Our technologies will
enable singers and musicians to enact a joint opera performance across
different geographical locations, where remote actors are virtually
embedded into the local stage environment. The main challenge is to
ensure that remote virtual and local physical realities are tightly
coupled. We achieve this by controlled ultra-low latency, stable media
synchronisation and a supreme audio-visual quality. Beyond arts
performances our research results will be applicable in many other
areas.

The Ph.D. project will focus on the coherence, consistency, causality
and synchronicity arising when combining distributed physical and
virtual
realities.

The Ph.D. project will focus on merging physical and virtual
realities. Artists and the audience at one location must blend with
the other participating locations into a coherent presentation,
merging the local physical reality with the visualization of the
remote locations. The research is systems oriented where systems are
designed, implemented and experimented upon.
