Friends and Colleagues,
In 1988, Musiques & Recherches published a first volume of its
thematic journal "LIEN" under the supervision of Francis Dhomont; the
volume was called 'L'Espace du Son' and was re-published ten years
later. Riding on the success of this first volume, a second was
published in 1991, once again under the supervision of Francis; the
latter is currently out of print but
it is accessible in electronic form (PDF version) from the website of
Musiques & Recherches http://www.musiques-recherches.be/edition.php?lng=fr&id=110

Today, the topic, i.e. the relations between Space and Sound, is
largely acknowledged in the concepts and practices of composers,
musicologists, analysts, studios, research centres, performers,
festivals and various acousmonium, but is also referred to in
technological environments and in the industrial standards of pop
music and recordings.

Meeting a number of requests, M&R is contemplating the publication of
a third volume. Such volume will be published on its website and will
be preceded by a meeting/conference during its eponymous festival; the
proposed
meeting will take place on 23 and 24 October 2009.

This topic gives way to multiple developments: esthetical (multi-
channels v. stereo composition, performances, esthetical consequences
of various spatialisation installations, representation of the sound
space, etc), but also technical
(acoustic simulations, multi-channel recordings, new formats, new
loudspeakers installations, etc.). Any article on that general topic
will be published as such, in its original language, without
translation. There is no reviewing committee, but a publishing
direction (of which I will be in charge) will provide a structure in
which the various papers will be organized.

Any author wishing to participate is invited to attend the conference
during the international acousmatic festival "L'Espace du Son" 2009
(from 22 to  25 October, théâtre Marni 25 rue Vergnies, 1050
Brussels). Admission fee to the festival is free for the participants.
The festival organisers can also provide addresses for hotel bookings.

Deadlines:
1st September: application to the conference
15 September: provide a summary of your topic
23-24 October: presentation at the conference (half an hour per
participant + questions). Video projection possible
1st December: article. The number of pages is unlimited. Providing an
article is not conditional upon participation to the conference.
End of March 2010: new edition of LIEN accessible under http://www.musiques-recherches.be

I hope this project will meet your expectations and enthusiasm.

With kind regards,
Annette Vande Gorne
Artistic Director Musiques & Recherches.
