Subject: Ear to the Earth
Hello all,
With my thanks for your interest in Ear to the Earth, a unique,
original, and potentially very powerful program for raising awareness
of environmental issues, I'm writing to you in the last moments of
2009 with words written by Mark Moffett, ecologist, prize-winning
photographer for National Geographic, recipient of the Lowell Thomas
Medal from the Explorers Club and Rolex. He wrote:
“Modern ecologists may have reached a limit on how effectively they
can convey messages to the public, and they may now need to draw upon
the emotional vibrancy offered by the arts.”
If you have not yet joined the Ear to the Earth network, please do it
now. Ear to the Earth is an international network of musicians,
composers, sound artists, scientists, environmental activists, and
members of the public who are concerned about the environment. Won’t
you please consider making a tax-deductible, end-of-the-year
contribution towards promoting our environment?

We are all partially aware that we are facing global disruption on a
scale that will profoundly affect our lives and the lives of our
children. Sometimes we ask ourselves, well, what can we do? And we
continue to perform our quotidian tasks while giving the environment
our partial attention.
But there are things we can do. We can focus our attention. We can
become involved. We can listen to sounds and look at images to connect
to the places they describe, and with those sounds and images, we can
exchange thoughts and ideas, feel emotional ties, and gain a deeper
feeling for the planet that we are so dangerously neglecting. At that
point, we can decide on practical and effective actions and push our
fellow citizens and politicians towards urgent action.
Joining together, we can do a lot. Let's make a push for raising
awareness of the environment. And have a healthier and happier New
Year in doing it.
