The influence of architectural aspects on Iannis Xenakis’ interdisciplinary works“ halten.

Even though many writings have been made on different music-to-architecture correlations in the works of Greek-French composer and architect Iannis Xenakis, there are still quite a few unexplored bits in the domain of his interdisciplinary works – the pieces that operate with both space and sound. As space has been an important aspect of Xenakis’ music throughout his life, the proposed research aims to locate and analyze the pieces that incorporate interdisciplinary way of thinking and implement its impact directly in the music material. Since Xenakis was one of the pioneers of algorithmic composition, his journey in the domain of parametric design has its roots in the aesthetics of his time and his engineering education. Such models he has incorporated in his architectural and musical practice, and eventually extended not only to the domain of new composition techniques, but also to the acoustical setting of performance. Instead of focusing on Xenakis’ rather well covered unconventional composing techniques, this research tends to develop from the perspective of various theories and spatial aspects that influenced his artistic work, and moreover, how these theories and aspects have directly influenced the sound.
