Not Your Mother’s 800 Channel Sound System: Researches in Superfluity
Drei Klanginstallationen für Wellenfeldsynthese
Room Piece 24 and Unintending are previously composed generative sound
installations that I’ve tried to adapt to the WFS system. How I
Learned to Stop Worrying is an improvisational environment made in Max
MSP that uses fragments of movie soundtracks, politically-related
„found“ sounds and an assortment of other field recordings,
synthesizers and instruments. The form is disjointed and unpredictable.
The approach to the WFS system has been to automate the
spatialization, sending 24 channels of audio from the laptop to the
main computer, creating „points“ of focus that should seem to come
from beyond the room, along the perimeter and inside the space.
Michael Schumacher (New York) ist Komponist, Klangkünstler und Leiter
der Klangkunstgalerie Diapason in Brooklyn, NY. Im Wintersemester
2011/12 lehrt er als Edgard-Varèse-Gastprofessor am Fachgebiet
Audiokommunikation der TU Berlin.
