The Department of Music at the University of California, Riverside
invites applications for a tenure-track position as Assistant
Professor of Music in digital composition beginning July 1, 2012.

We seek a composer with a compelling record of performed and/or
published compositions and significant theoretical and practical
experience in electroacoustic music, digital music, and music
technology. Potential areas of creative activity may include, but are
not limited to, electroacoustic composition (including vocal and
instrumental music), original film/media music, computer game/theatre
music, audiovisual composition, interactivity, live electronics, and/
or record album recording and production. Experience working in
interdisciplinary contexts and with common-practice digital
composition tools (sequencers, samplers, music notation programs), is
a plus.

We seek an energetic and visionary composer whose work and ideas will
extend the existing strengths of our Department. Teaching
responsibilities will include composition and music theory at all
levels (lower-division, upper-division, and graduate). Applicants
should explain how they will contribute to our vibrant Ph.D. program
in digital composition, showcased in UCR’s Experimental Acoustic
Research Studio (EARS) and our annual concert and performance venue,
“UCR is Composing.”

Qualifications include a DMA or Ph.D. (in hand by June 2012); a
substantial portfolio of digital musical compositions or other media
projects; evidence of public creative activity; competence in a non-
digital instrument; an on-going publication record in music theory,
aesthetics, semiotics, contemporary music, music technology or digital
media; and training in the pedagogy and practice of western music
theory.

Located sixty miles east of Los Angeles, the University of California,

Salary is commensurate with education, experience, publications, and
professional record.
