Dear colleagues !

Ableton AG and the Technical University Berlin/Audio Communication Group
are pleased to announce the 2013 Distinguished Thesis Award in Music
Informatics competition. This award recognizes distinguished scholarly
achievement at the master’s level in the field of Music Informatics.

The term “Music Informatics” denotes an interdisciplinary research area
dealing with the analysis, production and performance of music through
technology. It includes areas such as Music Information Retrieval, Audio
Content Analysis, New Musical Interfaces, Audio Signal Processing, Audio
Effects, or Digital Sound Synthesis.

The prize includes a financial award of

• 2000 € for the 1st prize
• 1000 € for the 2nd prize
• 500 € for the 3rd prize

plus a contribution for travel expenses for the student to receive the
award.

The 2013 prize will be awarded on 27 June 2014 during the Audio
Communication Day at TU Berlin.

The scholarly “product” eligible for this competition is a formal
written thesis (master thesis, diploma thesis, magister thesis),
submitted between 1 January and 31 December 2013 at any university in
Germany, Austria, or Switzerland. The language of the thesis has to be
English or German.

The deadline for application is 31 May 2014. The laureates will be
informed about the results on 10 June 2014.

The documents to be submitted for application shall include

• a pdf copy of the thesis
• an extended abstract (max. 800 words)
• a copy of the written assessment of the thesis including the grade
given by the supervisors

Everything should be packed in a zip-file with the name of the applicant
and sent to award@ak.tu-berlin.de.

The jury selecting the laureates will include:
