1) Trans-X Symposium Call for Papers deadline extended to March 30, 2012

New Adventures in Sound Art (NAISA) is pleased to announce Trans-X,
a symposium about Transmission Art May 25-27, 2012
We are now inviting proposals for papers
http://naisa.ca/opportunities.html#transx

Rooted in the earliest experiments with radio, Transmission Art has
continued to flourish with experiments with wireless communications
technology over the past 100 years. The 21st Century is not excluded
from this experimentation as artists have ventured into exploring a
variety of mobile-based platforms and more lesser known forms of
transmission such as VLF. The terrain of transmission art is dynamic
and fluid, always open to redefinition.

The Trans-X symposium, part of the Deep Wireless Festival of Radio &
Transmission Art, will focus on transmission art, with particular
interest in paper contributions that summarize, examine or reframe
traditions and histories of transmission art practices, technology,
education and pedagogy. Additionally, we are very interested in paper
presentations that go beyond the local contingent to give a sense of
what new technologies of international transmission activity might
sound like.

Proposals related to any aspect of transmission art practice are
welcome. Submit a 500-1000 word abstract, and a biography of 250 words
or less, to the symposium’s Review Committee at: http://naisa.ca/transx-submit-piece.php

All symposium contributions will be webcast live, and text proceedings
will be published on the NAISA web-site (www.naisa.ca). Please see the
web-site for specific guidelines on paper, composition and performance
submissions at http://naisa.ca/opportunities#transx

2) Toronto Electroacoustic Symposium 2012 Call for Papers deadline
April 23, 2012

New Adventures in Sound Art (NAISA) and the Canadian Electroacoustic
Community (CEC) is pleased to announce
the 2012 edition of Toronto Electroacoustic Symposium (TES) August 15
– 18, 2012
http://naisa.ca/opportunities.html#TES2012

We are now inviting proposals for papers, compositions and
performances (deadline: 23 April 2012)

The Toronto Electroacoustic Symposium (TES) has become a consistently
creative and cohesive point of contact between diverse electroacoustic
(EA) communities and the Toronto scene.

The 2012 symposium is the sixth annual iteration of this important
opportunity for exchange between diverse EA communities. In recent
years, a number of themes have emerged, among them laptop orchestras
and electronic ensembles, exchanges between popular and „unpopular“
traditions, „Sound plus Image“, and telematic performances. Proposed
presentations and performances/screenings related to the theme „Near
and Far — Inner and Outer Sound Places“ are especially welcome (see
submission details below)!

The symposium will take place in Toronto at New Adventures in Sound
Art’s facilities at the Artscape Wychwood Barns, from 15–18 August 2012.

As in preceding years, the symposium leads directly into the main
concert weekend of the annual Sound Travels Festival of Sound Art. The
2012 edition of Sound Travels will explore emerging trends alongside
established traditions in electroacoustic music and will be presented
on NAISA’s real-time spatialization system. At the heart of the
symposium will be a keynote lecture by Trevor Wishart, Sound Travels‘
featured artist.

All symposium contributions will be webcast live, and text proceedings
will be published in a forthcoming issue of the CEC’s online journal,
eContact! Please see the web-site for specific guidelines on paper,
composition and performance submissions at http://naisa.ca/opportunities#TES2012

We look forward to seeing you, your colleagues, collaborators and
students in Toronto in August!
