Open call for Participants: Spatial Sound Hack Lab at ZKM Karlsruhe
Do–So, 04.–07.02.2016
4DSOUND is a laboratory and cultural collective exploring spatial sound
as a medium. Since 2008, it has developed an innovative spatial sound
technology that has significantly improved and expanded the
possibilities to create, perform and experience sound spatially. 4DSOUND
is a fully omnidirectional sound environment, where the listener can
appreciate sound in a virtually unlimited spatial continuum. Sound can
move infinitely distant or intimately close to the listener. Within the
framework of »Performing Sound, Playing Technology«, a festival on
contemporary musical instruments and interfaces, 4DSOUND and ZKM host a
Spatial Sound Hack Lab.
We invite artists and hackers to explore the 4DSOUND system using
a variety of tools, instruments and interfaces of their own
choice, culminating in new experiments in sound, music, and
performance.
Media can include:
New music and sonic creations in Max/MSP and Ableton Live
New control interfaces with Liine’s Lemur
New interactive UIs built in Canvas on Lemur (familiar to those who
have worked with Web technologies)
New sound and/or control creations in other tools and code (Reaktor,
Pure Data, Processing, Supercollider, C++ etc.)
Previous experience with the above mentioned tools is not a requirement,
but of benefit. Artists and coders alike are welcome. You might be a
musician interested in exploring your instrument or voice with a spatial
interface, or an artist interested in visualising sonic forms. You might
be a coder or patcher eager to explore new tools. You might have some
novel technology or your own developed code that you would like to
interface with the 4DSOUND system. Perhaps you’re doing something
completely different we haven’t thought of!
A limited number of participants will be invited to participate. We
provide:
Access to the 4DSOUND system and gathered experts from 4DSOUND, ZKM,
TU Berlin and UdK Berlin (3DMIN)
Access to the evening concerts series in the context of »Performing
Sound, Playing Technology«
