This coming Monday at 4pm (UK time) we are welcoming Anna Xambo-Sedo to talk about Data-Driven Sound-Based Music
Abstract:
Sound-based music is an inclusive approach to music-making based on the manipulation of sound recordings. The availability of large sound collections facilitates new approaches to music creation and production. In this talk, I will discuss different approaches to data-driven sound-based music, including AI-powered live coding environments, audience-centric performances, and live scientific data. The talk will focus on the musical potential of these tools as well as the related issues concerning data privacy, attribution, or authorship.
Bio:
Anna Xambó is a Senior Lecturer in Music and Audio Technology at De Montfort University (DMU), a member of Music, Technology and Innovation – Institute of Sonic Creativity (MTI2), and an experimental electronic music producer. Her research and practice focus on sound and music computing systems looking at novel approaches to collaborative, participatory, and live coding experiences. She has been the Principal Investigator of the EPSRC HDI Network Plus funded project „MIRLCAuto: A Virtual Agent for Music Information Retrieval in Live Coding“. She is part of the Future Research Leaders Programme 2021/22 at DMU. Since 2016, she has taken proactive roles in organisations for improving the representation of women in music technology.http://annaxambo.me
