DEGEM News – KÖLN – IKO workshop in der Fuhrwerkswaage Köln

Von: Gerriet K. Sharma
Datum: Mon, 15 Jul 2019

Reaper (DAW)Software) bereits installiert.

[English]

Dear colleagues,

I may refer to the following event:

„Introduction to Sound Composition with the Icosahedral Loudspeaker (IKO)“.

with Gerriet K. Sharma

Workshop, three days 24 / 26 / 27 July 10 am – 16:00 pm

Kunstraum Fuhrwerkswaage, Bergstr 79, 50999 Cologne (line 16 to station Sürth)

In cooperation with Kunstraum Fuhrwerkswaage, Georg Dietzler Cologne and sonible Graz.

The workshop will provide an introduction to the functions and the space-compository possibilities of the IKO loudspeaker developed at the IEM Graz. The loudspeaker can bundle sound beams so strongly that reflecting surfaces can be used as virtual sound sources. This allows a completely different orchestration and excitation of the architectural space than with conventional multi-channel loudspeaker systems.

The workshop is intended to enable the participants to learn the basic steps in working with the prototype loudspeaker and architecture, experimenting with their own sound-space sketches.

Prerequisite for participation:
Own laptop with USB 2.0 (or adapter)
Reaper (DAW)Software) is already installed.
Own headphones.
All other necessary software components are provided.

5 places are available

Registration by e-mail > info@gerngesehen.de

Workshop fee: 90 € for the three days – 75 € for students
Prepayment: Invoice will be sent with the binding registration.
Note: Self-catering during the workshop days

The IEM icosahedron loudspeaker is one of currently five comparable loudspeaker systems in the world that were originally developed for acoustic measurements or holographic sound projections in the laboratory. The successive research of the apparatus-based setup for artistic purposes at the Institute for Electronic Music and Acoustics, Graz, Austria, was pursued by a working group of four engineers and the composer Gerriet K Sharma. „Orchestrating Space by Icosahedral Loudspeaker“ (OSIL) is a unique research project and was supported by the Austrian Research Fund (FWF) between 2014 and 2018 within the framework of an Excellence Funding Programme. Using beamforming, the loudspeaker is able to project sound beams in different directions and to create, superimpose and produce fields with the wall reflections, which in perception evoke three-dimensional auditory impressions. In contrast to conventional spatial sound systems for concert halls, the loudspeaker works with reflective surfaces, orchestrates the space from a central point and can be adapted to different room situations. The icosahedral loudspeaker (IKO) is manufactured and distributed by the start-up company sonible in Graz. sonible provides an IKO for the workshop.

Kind regards,
Gerriet K. Sharma
