CECIA: Open Call for Composers

CECIA (Collaborative Electroacoustic Composition with Intelligent Agents) ist ein innovatives Kunstprojekt, das die Kreativität von 5 KomponistInnen mit Machine-Learning-Algorithmen kombiniert. Erzeugt wird eine stimmige Komposition elektroakustischer Musik.
Das Projekt zielt darauf ab, kollaborative Musikproduktion zu erforschen und die Kreativität von elektroakustischen KomponistInnen und intelligenten AgentInnen über eine Cloud-Computing-Plattform zu nutzen.
Der gemeinsame Kompositionsprozess wird iterativ online durchgeführt, wofür die KomponistInnen Klangmaterial, Ideen und Vorschläge einreichen und bewerten. Diese Daten werden die Machine-Learning-Algorithmen trainieren, neue Klangstrukturen entsprechend den Gruppenpräferenzen zu erzeugen. Das Framework liefert ein dezentrales Modell für die elektroakustische Musikkomposition mit hybriden Akteuren (human-algorithmisch) und aufgeteilter Autorenschaft.
Von den ausgewählten KomponistInnen wird erwartet, dass sie mit der maßgeschneiderten Cloud-Computing-Plattform aus der Ferne arbeiten und von den ProjektmoderatorInnen Kosmas Giannoutakis und Artemi – Maria Gioti unterstützt werden. Jede/r KomponistIn erhält eine Vergütung von 400 Euro. Die aus dem Prozess resultierende Komposition wird im Dezember 2019 im ZKM | Zentrum für Kunst und Medien Karlsruhe uraufgeführt. Der Kooperationsprozess findet in einem festen Zeitraum von vier Monaten statt, der am 1. August 2019 beginnt und am 30. November 2019 endet.
Alle kreativen Inhalte, die von den Algorithmen und den ausgewählten KomponistInnen generiert werden, werden unter Creative Commons lizensiert, was dem ZKM und dem »Interfaces«-Projekt das Recht einräumt, sie in jedem physischen oder digitalen Format zu veröffentlichen.

CECIA: Open Call for Composers

CECIA (Collaborative Electroacoustic Composition with Intelligent Agents) is an innovative art project that integrates the creative agency of 5 composers and Machine Learning algorithms in order to produce a coherent composition of electroacoustic music. The project aims to explore collaborative music creation, harnessing the creativity of electroacoustic composers and Intelligent Agents through a cloud computing platform.
The collaborative process of composition will be conducted online in an iterative fashion, in which the composers will submit and evaluate sound material/ideas/suggestions. These data will train the machine learning algorithms, which will generate new sonic structures according to the group preferences. The framework implements a decentralized model for electroacoustic music composition, featuring hybrid agency (human-algorithmic) and distributed authorship.
The selected composers are expected to work remotely, using the bespoke cloud computing platform, and will receive support by the project moderators, Kosmas Giannoutakis and Artemi – Maria Gioti. Each composer will receive a fee of 400 EUR. The resulting composition will be premiered at the ZKM | Center for Art and Media Karlsruhe in December 2019. The collaborative process will take place in a fixed period of four months, beginning on August 1, 2019 and ending on November 30, 2019. All creative contents generated by the algorithms and the selected composers will be licensed under a Creative Commons license that allows ZKM and the »Interfaces« project the right to publish them in any physical or digital format.
