Applications are invited for the Eastman School of Music’s June 2020 study-abroad program in Paris, TH402a: Theory and Analysis of Contemporary Music, to be offered in conjunction with the ManiFeste-2020 festival and academy at IRCAM (Institut de Recherche et Coordination Acoustique/Musique). Course topics will include spectral music, timbre-based music, microtonality, computer-aided composition, and live electronics.

The four-week, three-credit course is open to graduate students and advanced undergraduates in theory, musicology, composition, and performance. Students will meet for two weeks in daily seminar sessions with Prof. Robert Hasegawa (McGill University), then will participate as auditors in the IRCAM ManiFeste Academy. The course will be taught in English, and knowledge of French is not necessary.

The application deadline is February 3, 2020 though late applications may be considered if there is still space in the class.
