Règlement :

1. Le concours international de composition électroacoustique KLANG! 2018 est ouvert aux compositions de musique mixte pour orchestre (dont l’effectif figure ci-dessous) et bande (ou échantillonneur) uniquement. Le concours est ouvert aux compositeurs de tous âges, nationalités et sexes.

2. Seules les musiques mixtes pour orchestre et bande son et/ou dispositif de traitement audio en direct (le programme doit être stable) stéréo ou multiphoniques (8 pistes max.) sont acceptées. La durée maximale de l’œuvre est de 20 minutes.

3. Les œuvres soumises doivent être écrites pour la nomenclature d’orchestre suivante (effectif maximum possible, l’utilisation d’un effectif réduit est donc possible ex: orchestre à corde & bande):

Cordes : 10; 8; 6; 4; 3.
Bois : 3 flûtes (dont 1 piccolo); 3 hautbois (dont 1 cor anglais); 3 clarinettes (dont 1 clarinette basse); 3 bassons (dont 1 contrebasson).
Cuivres : 4 cors; 3 trompette; 2 Trombones; 1 tuba.
3 Percussionnistes (2 + 1 timbalier) : timbales, grosse caisse, congos cymbales, triangle, caisse claire, tam-tam, xylophone, vibraphone, marimba, glockenspiel à clavier, batterie (kit) + petites percussions régulières (tambourin, claves, castagnettes, maracas…).
1 harpe.
1 piano (clavier concert).
Bande son et/ou traitement en direct (obligato) stéréo ou mulphoniques (jusqu’à 8 pistes).

4. Une donation de 5€ pour les frais de participation et d’organisation par PayPal est demandé pour votre inscription (donnez avec PayPal en cliquant sur le lien du formulaire d’inscription). Indiquez le titre de votre pièce dans l’encart « Ajouter des instructions particulières pour le vendeur » sur la page PayPal.

5. Les œuvres présentées ne doivent pas avoir été publiées et/ou distribuées à des fins commerciales et doivent avoir été composées dans les 6 années précédant la date de clôture de l’appel au concours.

6. Les participants doivent s’inscrire préalablement sur la page web en suivant toutes les étapes dans l’ordre (Donation – Formulaire d’inscription – Téléchargement) et soumettre un fichier audio de l’œuvre: orchestre (si possible, instruments midi acceptés) + bande son/traitement audio, la partition intégrale conducteur de l’oeuvre et un plan du placement des hautparleurs dans la salle (avec le nom ou numéro des pistes).

7. Chaque candidat peut présenter plusieurs oeuvres mais il doit impérativement se réinscrire (Donation – Formulaire d’inscription – Téléchargement) pour chaque oeuvre soumise. Dans le cas ou un compositeur soumet plusieurs œuvres au concours, une œuvre seulement par compositeur ne pourra être primée.

8. Le(s) fichier(s) audio doi(ven)t être nommés par le titre de l’oeuvre suivi de la mention ‘Audio18’ (ex: Titre_Audio18) et placé(s) dans un dossier nommé par le titre de l’oeuvre uniquement et la mention KLANG18 (ex: Titre_KLANG18, comme détaillé ci-dessous).

9. Envoyez votre candidature comme décrit ci-dessous, dans un seul dossier nommé par le titre de l’œuvre suivi par la mention KLANG18 (ex: Titre_KLANG18):

le fichier audio de l’œuvre: orchestre (instruments midi acceptés) + bande. Les formats admis sont : .aiff, .wav, 16bit and 44.1kHz. (pour les mutipistes pistes entrelacées, ajouter une version stéréo nommée par le titre de l’oeuvre suivi de la mention stéréo). Un fichier audio de la bande/traitement audio seul sera accepté si le compositeur ne peut fournir un enregistrement de l’orchestre.
le fichier pdf (ou jpeg) de la partition nommé par le titre de l’œuvre suivi de la notation ‘score16’ (ex: titre_score18.pdf).
un fichier pdf (ou jpeg…) de l’emplacement des pistes et haut-parleurs ( par rapport à l’orchestre), nommé par le titre de l’œuvre suivi de la notation ‘map18’ (ex: titre_map18.pdf).

10. Le nom de ou des compositeurs ne doit apparaître dans aucun des supports envoyés (pdf, fichiers audio), seul le titre permettra de faire le lien entre les compositeurs et les pièces soumises (bien noter le même titre sur tous les supports et formulaires).

11. Les oeuvres primées seront sélectionnées par un jury de compositeurs et de personnalités spécialisés durant le festival KLANG! électroacoustique 2018 (30 Mai-3 Juin 2018). Les participants doivent être joignable par skype ou téléphone lors de la délibération (date à préciser). A l’issue d’une dernière écoute à huis clos, le jury délibèrera et annoncera l’oeuvre qui a obtenu le 1er prix et le 2nd.

12. La date limite d’envoi des inscriptions est le 1er Mai 2018 avant minuit heure française (GMT+2).

Prix:

Premier prix: Passage sur une radio française, l’oeuvre sera interprétée par l’Orchestre national Montpellier Occitanie et KLANG! acousmonium lors d’un concert à la saison prochaine.

Deuxième prix: l’oeuvre sélectionnée sera interprétée par l’Orchestre National de Montpellier et KLANG! acousmonium lors d’un concert à la saison prochaine.

Le jury est composé de plusieurs compositeurs et artistes spécialisés de renommée internationale (annoncé prochainement).

Guidelines:

1. The international electroacoustic composition competition KLANG! 2018 is open to mixed music compositions for orchestra (see below for details) and tape (or sampler) only. The competition is open to composers of all ages, nationalities and sexes.

2. Only mixed music for orchestra and band and/or live audio treatment (the patch has to be stable) stereo or multichannel (8 channels max.). The maximum duration of the work is 20 minutes.

3. The works submitted must be written for the next band (maximum configuration possible, the use of a reduced orchestra is therefore possible, e.g. sting orchestra & tape):

Strings: 10; 8; 6; 4; 3.
Wood: 3 flutes (including 1 piccolo); 3 oboes (including 1 English horn); 3 clarinets (including 1 bass clarinet); 3 bassoons (including 1 contrabassoon).
Brass: 4 horns; 3 trumpet; 2 Trombones; 1 tuba.
3 Percussionists (2 + 1 timpani player): timpani, bass drum, congas cymbals, triangle, snare drum, xylophone, vibraphone, marimba, glockenspiel keyboard, battery (set) small regular percussion (tambourine, claves, castanets, maracas …) .
1 harp.
1 piano (keyboard concert).
Tape and/or live treatment (obbligato) stereo or multi (up to 8 tracks)..

4. A donation of 5€ (pay with PayPal by clicking on the link for the registration form) to help with participation and organisation is needed for your entry. Indicate the title of your piece in the box « Add special instructions to the seller » (Ajouter des instructions particulières pour le vendeur) on the PayPal page.

5. Submitted works must not have been published and/or distributed for commercial purposes and must have been composed in the 6 years preceding the competition call closure date.

6. Participants must register (all stages in order: Donation – Registration form – Download) in advance on the following web page (click link below) and submit an audio file of the work: orchestral soundtrack ( if possible, midi instruments accepted) + tape/audio, the full conductor score of the work and a map of the speaker placement in the hall (with name or number of each track).

7. Each applicant may submit several works but it is imperative to re-register (Donation – Registration form – Download) for each submitted work. In case a composer submits several works to the contest, one work by composer may only be winning.

8. Audio files must be appointed by the title of the work followed by the words ‘Audio18’ (eg Tittle_Audio18) and placed in a folder named by the title of the work followed by KLANG18 (eg Tittle_KLANG18, as detailed below).

9. Send your application with the elements as described below, in a single folder named by the title of the work followed by KLANG18 (eg Tittle_KLANG18):

the audio file of the work: orchestra (midi instruments accepted) + tape/audio treatments. Accepted formats: aiff, wav, 16bit and 44.1kHz. (multichannel tracks must be interleaved and a stereo version called by the title of the work followed by the mention stereo must be added). Audio files containing the tape part only will be accepted if the composer cannot send a recording of the orchestra.
the pdf (or jpeg) file of the complete score named by the title of the work followed by the notation ‘score18’ (eg tittle_score18.pdf).
a pdf (or jpeg …) the location of tracks and speakers (compared to the orchestra), appointed by the title of the work followed by the notation ‘map18’ (eg titre_map18.pdf)

10. The name of the composers should not appear in any of the sent media (pdf, audio files), only the title will make the link between composers and the works (note the same title on all media and forms).

11. The winning entries will be selected by a jury of artists and composers of international renown during the festival KLANG! électroacoustique, 2016 (30 May-3 June 2018). Participants must be available by phone or Skype during the deliberation (tbc). At the end of a listening session (behind closed doors), the jury will deliberate and announce the 1st prize and the the 2nd.

12. The deadline for entries is the 1st of May 2018 before midnight French time (GMT + 2). Recall that works in progress are accepted if the composition work is already well advanced (in case of doubt, contact us: arts.sonores@gmail.com). The composer then agrees to finish the whole work (with all individual instrumental parts) by the 1st of September 2018 (as attested by the application to the contest).
Prizes:

First prize: Passage on French radio, the work will be performed by the Montpellier National Orchestra and KLANG! acousmonium during a concert next season.

Second prize: the selected work will be performed by the Montpellier National Orchestra and KLANG! acousmonium during a concert next season.

The jury consists of internationally renowned composers (to be announced soon).
