Betreff: [cec-c] Networked Imagination Laboratory and grad studies
…
We are now receiving applications for both the MA in Communication and New Media, and the PhD in Communication, New Media and Cultural Studies at McMaster. Both are highly interdisciplinary and research-focused programs – as their long names might suggest – and both are typically able to offer relatively competitive funding to accepted students.
As a supervisor, I’m particularly interested in pursuing conversations about potential live coding / live electronics / network music / sonification / laptop orchestra / etc proposals. A key piece of context for this is the recent opening of the new, CFI-funded Networked Imagination Laboratory, focused on live coding and network music research and featuring a large array of loudspeakers (80+) and extensive network audio hardware. Relevant proposals might work in the new laboratory, as well as benefit from a number of other performance and development spaces on campus, such as a new black box theatre that is similarly replete with loudspeakers and network audio gear.
If you’re interested – or know friends/students/peers who might be interested – don’t hesitate to get in touch (or encourage them to get in touch) with me to discuss the possibilities in more detail. Also: We are hosting an information session (specific to the MA program) this Thursday 30 Nov 2017 at 5:30 PM EDT, and it will be livestreamed (with the possibility to send questions via chat) here: https://www.youtube.com/user/ogbornd/live
Yours truly,
David
