VII ST. PETERSBURG INTERNATIONAL NEW MUSIC FESTIVAL

Deadlines:
April 12 (Group), May 10 (Group C) and May 15 (Free Auditors)

The Saint Petersburg Contemporary Music Center «reMusik.org» announces the VII St. Petersburg International New Music Festival, taking place from May 25th — June 1st, 2020 as an online festival due to the global coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Internationally-renowned musical collectives will be performing, such as Saint Petersburg State Symphony Orchestra (Russia), Les Percussions de Strasbourg (France), Adapter (Germany), Lemniscate (Switzerland), Moscow Contemporary Music Ensemble (Russia), Trio SÆTENWIND (Switzerland), Duo Mixed Sound Personnel (Germany) and more.

Within the framework of the 2020 festival, reMusik.org offers an Online Composition Course which will be held from May 21st — June 1st, 2020. The Composition Course gives participants access to distinguished composers, online composition lessons and live stream lectures while affording each participant ample time to compose in a relaxed home-work environment and enjoying from the festival live streams and virtual concerts and its other events.

During the 10 days, participants will have individual lessons with the three tutors at least, and they are welcome to attend at any time, and as much or as little as their course activities allow, to observe other lessons and lectures. Each participant will have the opportunity to supervise the preparation of his/her own work from the very beginning to its online concert performance or interactive online presentation, may discuss the composition and execution aspects of his/her work with the tutors and the ensemble’s directors or may have personal contact with the individual instrumentalists.

The program will run from May 21st — June 1st, 2020.

Joanna Bailie (United Kingdom), Oscar Bianchi (Switzerland), Raphaël Cendo (France), Yuri Kasparov (Russia) and Dmitri Kourliandski (Russia).

ELIGIBILITY

All composers age 18 and over.

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

All applications must be submitted online. Applications are reviewed by a panel comprised of distinguished proponents of contemporary music, including reMusik.org’s esteemed faculty, professional musicians, and composers. The committee reserves the right to request additional information from the candidates or to make changes to the rules if circumstances require.

Participants will have a possibility to advance their skills through the following opportunities:

Group A*
● Minimum 3 hours of individual online** lessons with 3 different tutors*** (Each lesson is 1 hour);
● Performance and professional recording of their work at one of the festival live streams or virtual concerts;
● Access to live stream lectures;
● 45-minutes online presentation of their work;
● Access to observe individual lessons of other participants;
● Live feed and participation in Chat/Questions;
● Access to festival live online events.

Group B
This option is temporarily unavailable.

Group C
● Minimum 3 hours of individual online lessons with 3 different tutors*** (Each lesson is 1 hour);
● Access to live stream lectures;
● 45-minutes online presentation of their work;
● Access to observe individual lessons of other participants;
● Live feed and participation in Chat/Questions;
● Access to festival live online events.

* You may apply for multiple selection groups.
** reMusik.org provides tech support tools for online activities.
*** Participants will have individual lessons with 3 or 4 different tutors.

Free Auditors
Auditors are welcome to join the St. Petersburg International New Music Festival. This is a great opportunity for anyone wanting to learn from the accomplished artists and be immersed within the excitement of the Festival. All auditors receive all the benefits of observing experienced artists working with students. They will have access to all live online educational events. The preliminary registration is obligatory.

In addition to the application form, please submit the following:

Group A
● 2-3 scores (submitted electronically in .pdf format via Dropbox, Google Drive or similar);
● Recordings of 1-2 works (submitted electronically via Dropbox, Google Drive or similar);
● Biography.

Notes:
● The composer submits existing pieces which never performed in Russia. At least one of the scores must be submitted for one of the following lineups:
– flute, clarinet, violin, cello, piano (1-5 performers);
– cello, saxophone, accordion (1-3 performers);
– soprano, snare drum (1-2 performers);
– cello and electronics.

Adding electronics to each lineup is possible, but before you submit your application, please send your technical rider to check the details.

Please be aware that composers admitted to the composition course (Group A) must send, no later than Wednesday, April 15th, 2020, the score and the instrumental parts of the piece to be used for performance in the concert.

Group B

INCENTIVES

1— 3 Participants will be selected to be performed on the next Festival in May 2021 and their work to be published by Edition reMusik.org.

REQUIREMENTS

● English Language
● Incomplete applications or applications which do not include all the requested materials mentioned above will not be accepted.

APPLICATION DEADLINE

● Group A: 12th April 2020
After the acknowledgement of selection, students are required to confirm their participation and send final score and parts within three days. Confirmation of attendance is required for students in receipt of tuition fee.

● Group C: 10th May 2020
Each application will be reviewed or approved within three days. After the acknowledgement of selection, students are required to confirm their participation within three days. Confirmation of attendance is required for students in receipt of tuition fee.

● Free Auditors: 15th May 2020.
