UT Austin is hiring TWO positions in the Butler School of Music’s
Composition Department:
(1) Artist-Teacher of Composition and Electronic Music/Director of
Electronic Music Studios:
Responsibilities include teaching courses, applied lessons, and independent
studies in electronic and acoustic composition at the graduate and
undergraduate levels. Supervise graduate student research. Direct and
manage the electronic music studios. The successful candidate will be
expected to curate and produce a mixed-media concert series among other
collaborations with related programs on campus, including but not limited
to arts and entertainment technologies, theatre and dance, engineering, and
computer science.
Qualifications:
DMA or PhD required (or equivalent professional accomplishments). A
portfolio demonstrating a record of excellence as a composer in electronic
and acoustic formats. Professional experience should include curating mixed
media concerts plus two or more of the following: composing for theater or
stage; songwriting; sound art or installation; scoring for film, video,
animation, computer games, or advertisements; or producing. A record of
achievement teaching and recruiting a strong class of students with diverse
backgrounds, interests, and experiences.

(2) Artist-Teacher of Composition:
Responsibilities include teaching courses, applied lessons, and independent
studies in composition at the graduate and undergraduate levels. Supervise
graduate student research. Liaise with other units in the College of Fine
Arts to foster inter-departmental student collaborations. For candidates
with interest and appropriate qualifications, the opportunity to direct the
UT New Music Ensemble, a nationally recognized group of high-caliber
performers.
Qualifications:
DMA or PhD (or equivalent professional accomplishments) required. A
portfolio demonstrating a record of excellence as a composer. A record of
collaboration across media, e.g. opera, theatre, dance, film, gaming,
and/or visual arts. Experience with electronic media is desired, as is a
record of teaching and recruiting a strong class of students with diverse
backgrounds, interests, and experiences.
