DEGEM News – THURNAU/BERLIN – December Concert News (Berlin, Thurnau)

Von: Simon Vincent Information#
Datum: Fri, 08 Dec 2017
Betreff: December Concert News (Berlin, Thurnau)

I would like to share the news of 2 events: One in Thurnau and one in Berlin.

Before I do that however, I would like already to mention an up-coming release by Principal RPO Trombonist Matthew Gee.

A truly exceptional musician who is working tirelessly to broaden the repertoire of this instrument, Matthew has commissioned new acoustic and electroacoustic works by Gary Carpenter, Rob Keeley and myself. The resulting CD is an exciting array of approaches and will be released early 2018. You can find out more about it here:

I hope this email finds you all very well, and as ever, my sincerest thanks for your support and for reading this newsletter.

Wishing you all the very best for the coming weeks and a healthy start to 2018.
Simon

14th December 2017: Thurnau, Bavaria.

The Unseen in film, music, literature & the archive.

As part of a workshop and gathering with Renzo Baas (London), Danillo Barata (Salvador da Bahia), Ute Fendler (Bayreuth), Katharina Fink (Bayreuth), Henriette Gunkel (London), Esther Peeren (Amsterdam), Kathrin Rothemund (Bayreuth) and Lu Zhao (Erlangen), I will be presenting my thoughts on music’s ability to ‚evoke‘ in a lecture entitled SHINING. Spectral appearances in the world of music.

On a physical level, the spectral content of a note gives it what may be called its ‚character,‘ however on a referential level, other ‚characters‘ start to appear – in real time – as part of the listening process.
The lecture will illustrate the concept of ’shining‘, the real-time appearance of things simultaneously rooted in and beyond the human experience in acoustic and electroacoustic music.

The evening will conclude with the performance of a new solo work, commissioned by Bayreuth Academy of Advanced African Studies and Iwalewahaus, University of Bayreuth.
