DEN HAAG – STEIM and Sonology offer new MMus study for developing new musical instruments

Instruments & Interfaces MMus Study beginning September 2011

An educational collaboration between STEIM and the Institute of Sonology

This September STEIM will partner with the department of Sonology at the Royal Conservatory in the Hague to offer a new masters program called Instruments & Interfaces. Over the last forty years STEIM has been an international destination for performing artists to explore new electronic instruments. Now we’re opening up our doors to share our body of knowledge and continue that tradition with the next generations of instrument builders.

The Instruments & Interfaces program will provide dedicated students with an in-depth exploration of the issues at stake when building new instruments for electronic music. This will be done through a combination of theoretical discussion, practical art-as-research, and formalized coursework between the labs at STEIM and the faculty at Sonology.

Ideal candidates for the study performing musicians, sound-installation artists, interaction designers and software/hardware engineers with some musical background.
