„music for astronauts with thick beards“: so hat fostex 160 kapitän
jim campbell seine konzertreihe „baender bender“ untertitelt. dabei
stellt der tape-dj jeden monat eine neue crew zusammen – ausgestattet
mit klangerzeugern von archaisch bis postmodern – und hebt ab richtung
„was wäre, wenn..?“ im juni sind dabei:
hellmut neidhardt: guitar
ilias ntais: guitar
jorgos katsimitsoulias: live drawing
jim campbell: cassette scratch kit / shredapter
„don’t fret“
here’s a semi-hilarious joke (comedy = highly subjective) i made up
one sleepless night not too long ago:
guitarist: master how do i learn to play the true open chord of inner
peace?
zen master: don’t fret.*
in this spirit, i’m very happy to invite you to this month’s baender
bender, the last before the summer break, featuring the very
complimentary double guitars of hellmut neidhardt & ilias ntais & the
improvising graphic artist jorgos katsimitsoulias. hellmut, better
known simply as „n.“, is a much appreciated duo partner of mine & a
master of the fuzzy drone. congenial guitar gyro ntais has a knack for
melancholy but soothing solo pop gems & is also an inspired duo
partner. jorgos has a last name that i find somehow impossible to
recall on command, but i always remember that it has „soul“ in it. in
the scope of his soundsketching duo with ilias, he has developed a
simple & elegant approach to live drawing that is refreshingly
abstract & unabashedly meditative.
the four of us plan to explore our way through multiple duo sets
(hellmut & i, ilias & i, hellmut & ilias) before closing together with
a longer trio set accompanied by jorgos‘ live inkscapes, in a kind of
sideways tribute to our favorite face-melting two-guitar bands.
* fret also means worry…it’s a decent joke, really!
