Sehr geehrte Damen und Herren,
Liebe Freundinnen und Freunde der inpetto filmproduktion,
manchmal sind es kleine Zufälle, die vergessene Verlängerung eines Reisedokuments etwa, die Türen öffnen, durch die einmal getreten ein Sog entsteht, der nicht mehr loslässt. Ein solcher Zufall brachte uns vor Jahren in den Wald am Großen Brückentinsee an der Grenze der Brandenburg zu Vorpommern, in dem wir eher absichtslos anfingen zu fotografieren. Was auf diese Weise begann, entfaltete viel Eigensinn und führte uns zu einem Ergebnis, das so viele positive Resonanzen hervorrief, dass ARTHAUS Musik den Mut aufbrachte, es nun als DVD zu publizieren.
„Im Wald / Under the Trees“ – 8 Studien über animierte Stillleben und Musik – die nun vorliegende DVD – ist kein Naturfilm, auch keine Dokumentation und noch weniger ein experimentelles Musikvideo. Was ist dieser Film eigentlich, der sich – nicht mehr und nicht weniger – der Schönheit der Natur und der Musik widmet? Der Komponist und Dirigent Hans Zender schrieb uns „Ihren großen Film haben wir mit großer Spannung gesehen. Es war eine der wenigen Male in meinem Leben, dass ich von einer sinnvollen Verbindung von Musik und Film überzeugt wurde, und ich gebe Ihnen vollkommen recht, wenn Sie sagen, dass die Beziehung zwischen Bild und Musik sich am besten herstellt, wenn man sie beide ihre strukturellen Wege gehen lässt, und so mehr oder weniger dem Zuschauer/Hörer überlässt, wie er sie verbindet. Das setzt voraus, dass beide Medien in einer gewissen Kontinuität fließen.“
Die Bilder der Natur als ein offenes Buch – ein Buch nicht der Worte, sondern der musikalischen Gesten, der chromatischen Veränderungen, offenkundiger und verborgener Klanggestalten und ihrer strukturellen Korrespondenzen im Sichtbaren. „Im Wald / Under the Trees“ hat das Konzerthaus Berlin so überzeugt, dass es zur Zeit alle Hebel in Bewegung setzt unsere „Konzertinstallation“ (auch das ein möglicher Gattungsbegriff für den Inhalt der DVD) nächstes Jahr im April mit Live-Orchester zu produzieren.
Die 8 Studien von Uli Aumüller und Sebastian Rausch zeigen, wie Panoramabilder von einem Waldstück mit Musik verschiedenster Stile und Epochen synchronisiert werden können. Wie schon in der ausgewählten Musik ist auch für die visuelle Gestaltung die Balance zwischen figurativer Gegenständlichkeit und abstrakten Konstellationen von Farben, Formen und Flächen ein wesentliches Element der kompositorischen Prozesse. Die Photographien als graphischen Partituren sind die Grundlage, den Zusammenhang zwischen dem Hörbaren und Sichtbaren möglichst eng zu verweben. Ein Beispiel einer auf das Bild komponierten Musik ist der 7te Teil dieses Films – „Nachtlicht“ von Gilles Gobeil.

Dear Sir, dear Madam,
Dear friends of inpetto filmproduktion,
it sometimes only needs a little coincidence that helps to open the door to renew the interest in a once made but forgotten journey.
Such a coincidence took us back to the woods at ‘Grossen Brückentinsee’
at the border of Brandenburg zu Vorpommern, where years ago, for no particular reason, we decided to take photographs.
What started out as nothing special evolved into a task that required a lot of discipline and eventually resulted in something receiving such positive reactions that ARTHAUS took up the courage to release what we produced on a DVD.
The DVD ,,Im Wald/Under the trees” – 8 studies on animated still lifes combined with music – is not a film about nature, nor a documentary and even less an experimental music video.
What is the impact of a film, that just focuses on the beauty of nature and music?
Composer and conductor Hans Zender let us know: ,,We watched your wonderful film with much fascination.
It was one of the few times in my life that I could really see a meaningful connection between music and film, and I agree totally with you when you say, that the connection between image and music is experienced at its best when you just leave them to go their own structural way and let the viewer/listener decide how to combine/view them. Providing that both media more or less move together.”
Images of nature displayed as an open book – a book with no words,
but instead with musical movements, chromatic changes, obvious and hidden sound shapes that merge into a structural parallel.
Konzerthaus Berlin believes in this project and is now pulling out all the stops to produce our ‘concert installation’ (another possible generic name for the contents of the DVD) ,,Im Wald/Under the Trees” in April next year accompanied by a live orchestra .
These 8 studies by Uli Aumüller and Sebastian Rausch show how panoramic images of a part of a forest combined with music can synchronize different
stiles and time frames.
As already present in the music we chose, for the visual arrangement the element of the composing process consisted also of finding a balance between figurative representation and abstract constellations.
The photographs as graphic scores are the basis used as link to interweave the audible and visuals as much as possible.
An example of music composed based on an image is the 7th part of this film –
“Nachtlicht” by Gilles Gobeil.
