Betreff: [cec-c] HEARO presents Sound + Music + Text + Place: Music and video from Katharine Norman

Coming up next week at the University of Hull…

A concert from composer Katharine Norman, with flautist Carla Rees and our very own Graziana Presicce on piano. Thursday 11th May at 5pm.

The performance will combine live instruments with video, text, and field recordings presented over our immersive 30 loudspeaker orchestra, HEARO (Hull Electroacoustic Resonance Orchestra).

There will also be a masterclass/workshop from 11am – 1pm on the same day. This will be divided between Katharine and Carla, and will be suitable for both composers and performers.

Katharine Norman is an internationally recognized composer of work for instruments and digital resources, often inspired by people’s experience of place and landscape. Over the past 10 years she has developed a concurrent profile as a writer. Computer programming also forms an essential part of her creative work.

Carla Rees is a UK-based low flutes player and arranger. She is the artistic director of rarescale, an ensemble which exists to promote the alto flute and its repertoire, and Director of low flutes publishing company, Tetractys.

Graziana Presicce is currently working through her PhD studies in Music Performance at the University of Hull as part of the university’s scholarship programme. Graziana graduated in 2012 with a First Class BA Music Degree at the University of Hull, where she was awarded the Sir Thomas Beecham Music Scholarship and Special Prize in Music.
