Stockhausen’s epic opera Mittwoch aus Licht/ Wednesday from Light – long thought unperformable – will receive its eagerly awaited world premiere here in the heart of Birmingham as part of the London 2012 Festival. Graham Vick’s unique and visionary Birmingham Opera Company is joined by a stellar group of artists including Ex Cathedra, London Voices, Birmingham Opera Company Orchestra, leading soloists from around the world and Stockhausen’s long term collaborator, Kathinka Pasveer, as Music Director.
A revolutionary figure in 20th century music, Stockhausen’s radical innovation moved composition into new territory harnessing the new technology of electronic music and breaking the barriers between musical genres. His influence on artists such as Bjork, Grateful Dead, Pink Floyd and Frank Zappa reflects his appeal to a very broad and discerning audience.
