Subject: [ak-discourse] CFP: DVSM e.V. Film and Media Music, Cologne,
Nov 2010

For the symposium of DVSM e.V. Film and Media Music, we are looking for
academic submissions on the relations between music, academics and the
media.

The cooperation between DVSM e.V. (Dachverband der Studierenden der
Musikwissenschaft; http://www.dvsm.de), the professional association mediamusic
e.V. and SoundTrack_Cologne (www.soundtrackcologne.de) aims for academic
research on music in film and the media, in addition to the regular
events
during SoundTrack_Cologne, in which the correlation between theory and
practice will be determined. Every paper will be grouped into thematic
fields.

Submissions on various aspects of music, film and the media may be
accepted.
We particularly encourage papers on methodological and theoretical
approaches as well as on those with a clear connection to the overall
theme
of the conference. There will be a special focus on music in media for
children. Such aspects may include:

-„cassetten children“ | Soundtrack of a generation: childrens radio
plays
for an adult audience/LP recordings / commercial vs. Public
productions etc.

– „New Media“ in media for children

– musical socialisation through use of the media

– „childish“ vs. „child-appropriate“ music

We also encourage to start new research after building new networks to
other
experts during the conference. Please do not hesitate to contact us
for any
questions concerning possible submissions.

We are looking forward to innovative submissions with an independent and
critical approach beyond conventional musicological themes.

Subject to evaluation, all papers may be published in an anthology.

Turn in your abstract of 300 words max., including a short overview on
your
research question and your methodology. Send this to the email address:

filmundmedien at dvsm.de

Deadline will be 18 August.

The presentations should not exceed a maximum length of 20 minutes.
Language
may be German or English. We particularly encourage young academics and
students to apply.
