The Herbert Thompson International Scholarships
Session 2011-2012

INFORMATION FOR APPLICANTS
Two scholarships are available for international fee-paying students
for Session 2011-2012 for study in the School of Music, University of
Leeds.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
. These awards are only open to applicants who are liable to pay
academic fees at the international fee rate;
. Applicants must hold at least a UK Upper Second Class Honours degree
or equivalent;
. Applicants whose first language is not English must meet the School
of Music’s English Language requirements;
. These awards are not open to individuals who have already been
awarded a Doctoral degree or equivalent.

REGULATIONS:
. Two scholarships are available from September 2011 and must be taken
up on that date.
. The awards are available to suitably qualified candidates wishing to
undertake full-time Masters study (one-year full-time taught Masters).
. The award will represent £5000 towards fees.
. No maintenance is provided.

METHOD OF APPLICATION
. Candidates must complete all sections of the application form, using
the space provided on the form and with strict observation of any word
limits. Attachments are not permitted and all will be disregarded.
. The completed form should be returned to Postgraduate Admissions,
School of Music, University of Leeds, Leeds, LS2 9JT, or by email to pgmusic@leeds.ac.uk
by no later than 1 April 2011.
. If you have not already done so, you should complete and return the
application form (together with full transcripts of degree marks) to
apply for an academic place at the University of Leeds. Scholarship
applications from candidates who have not received a formal offer of a
place at the University will not be considered.
. The „Application for Taught Postgraduate Study“ form should be
returned to Taught Student Administration, University of Leeds, Leeds,

APPLICATION PROCEDURE & RESULT
Applications are logged by the School of Music. The Scholarships Panel
in the School of Music will then meet to consider the applications and
select the successful candidates. Candidates can expect to be notified
of the outcome of their application by the beginning of May 2011.The
School of Music will publish the names of the successful candidates on
the School of Music website.
