Position Announcement: Assistant Professor in Composition-Theory
The Department of Music at Brown University invites applications for a
full-time tenure-track position of Assistant Professor in
composition-theory, to begin July 1, 2015.
We seek a composer-theorist with broad interdisciplinary interests,
evidence of exceptional scholarly and creative promise, and a strong
commitment to teaching acoustic/electro-acoustic composition and music
theory at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Responsibilities of the
position include helping to shape a robust music theory and composition
curriculum; directing undergraduate and graduate independent studies,
theses, and dissertations; and participating fully in the intellectual
life of the department. In addition to expertise in acoustic composition
and theory, the successful candidate will have skill with interactive
media and new performance technology and be able to contribute to MEME,
the department’s program in computer music and multimedia.
We are looking for a dynamic and collaborative teacher, artist, and
scholar who will be able both to advance the department’s goals and to
contribute to a vibrant and growing community of artists in the
University and beyond. Applicants should have completed the doctorate by
August 2015. Demonstrated excellence in teaching at the university level
and a strong record of scholarly and creative work are essential.
