Januar 2012 – 19:00 Uhr

Marinos Koutsomichalis
‚..fucking turn it UP and you just have one of the best noise albums
of the year..‘
(Anti-Gravity-Bunny)

He will present recent compositions/installations and elaborate upon
his main aesthetic aspirations, research methodologies and technical
issues.

Marinos Koutsomichalis‘ s research is primary focused on the ways
sound manifests in the space-time-conscioussness complex and how he
can create aesthetically intriguing artworks based on such
manifestations as mediums in themselves. His artistic output consists
of performative works, installations, fixed-media works and media art.

Active internationally in both academic and non academic milieus, MK
is being composing and performing exploratory sound (and sometimes
visual) art since the mid ’00s using a variety of mediums – computers,
programming languages, acoustic instruments / ensembles, analogue
electronics, loudspeakers, domestic appliances, environmental sounds
or photography amongst others. He is mainly interested in how sonic/
visual phenomena manifest in the space-time-consciousness complex and
how he can create aesthetically intriguing artworks based on such
manifestations as mediums in themselves. He has no interested in
expressing or representing anything – his art aims rather at
fulfilling space and at essentially stimulating one‘ s state of being
instead.

Hitherto, he has released several solo albums that were met with
enthusiasm by critics, in labels such as the Brtish Entr‘ acte or his
own agxivatein. He has exhibited works of his worldwide in acclaimed
galleries, academias, festivals, churches, independent venues, etc. He
has collaborated with Z’EV, Francisco Lopez, Marc Behrens, Kasper T.
Toeplitz, Greg Haines, the Red Note Ensemble, N. Kyriazopoulos and
others in various projects. He is member various research centres and
institutions like the CMRC (founded by I. Xenakis), HELMCA, FKL and
others. He has lectured at the Technical University of Crete and at
the Centre of Contemporary Music Research (KSYME). He is stilll
undertaking his Ph.D. in the Music Research Centre, University of York
under the supervision of Dr Tony Myatt.

Was sind Sound Studies Lectures?
Briefing fundiert umzusetzen.
