Abstract: In this talk, we delve into the latest developments in artificial reverberation, focusing on the algorithmic design and perceptual requirements for creating convincing acoustic auralizations. We explore feedback delay networks (FDNs), a key technique in algorithmic reverberation, highlighting their mathematical foundations and implementation challenges. Additionally, we address the perceptual demands of position-dependent reverberation in multi-room environments, emphasizing how listeners perceive spatial attributes and the importance of these perceptions in designing effective reverberation systems. A key highlight is the introduction of common slope methods, an efficient parametrization approach that enhances computational efficiency while maintaining high auditory fidelity. We also cover the replication of room impulse responses (RIRs) with artificial reverberators, discussing the design considerations and the rigorous perceptual testing required to match real acoustic spaces.
