Betreff: [ak-discourse] Workshop: Laboratory for Performance-Ethnographic Approaches to DJing

As part of our Sound System Epistemologies project, we are hosting the artist, DJ and researcher GIN from London. I am organising a workshop with her on Thursday, 15 October 2026, at HAEL at our institute, titled “Laboratory for Performance-Ethnographic Approaches to DJing”.

Perhaps this might be interesting for your students at your EDM research Seminar. Please feel free to invite them. The workshop has limited capacity, so anyone interested would need to register by sending me an email.

Please find the information for the workshop below.

Thank you and all the best,
Ilgaz

Workshop plan

In a three-hour session, we will begin with an introduction to basic mixing techniques during the first hour. The second hour is designed as a collaborative music-making and experimentation session in a peer-to-peer learning format, enabling both the exchange of technical knowledge and discussion of different methodological and musical approaches. Finally, we will collectively reflect on our experiences and insights using a questionnaire. Particular attention will be paid to making implicit forms of knowledge (tacit knowledge) visible and open to discussion.

More on GIN’s profile:

She is the founder of the Faggamuffin Bloc Party and co-founder of the Black Obsidian Sound System, two queerfeminist collectives in London dedicated to sound system practices and Afro-Caribbean music cultures.
