unrest 62/22: Grenzfrequenz / Tele Musicking @ Deutsch-Japanisches Zentrum, Berlin + Goethe Institut Tokyo / 27. + 28.05. / Beginn: 12 Uhr!

unrest 62/22 – Grenzfrequenz at Japanisch-Deutsches Zentrum 27. & 28.5.2022

unrest 62/22: Grenzfrequenz / Tele Musicking @ German-Japanese
Center, Berlin + Goethe Institute Tokyo / 27. + 28.05. / start in
Berlin: 12 noon!

unrest 62/22 – Grenzfrequenz at Japanisch-Deutsches Zentrum 27. & 28.5.2022

Together with Makoto Oshiro we have conceptualized a music program for the 60th anniversary of the Goethe-Institut Tokyo, which bridges the gap between historical works from the 60s and today and, via identical acoustic projection spaces, short-circuits Berlin and Tokyo for a moment. ?As a prelude, Hainbach will give a performative lecture on technology and techniques of early electronic music at Superbooth 2022, on May 13 / 18.30h / Auditorium. We will be there, too, of course. The lecture will also be available digitally later.?
The concerts on May 27th and 28th in Berlin start already at 12 o’clock, the German Japanese Center in Dahlem is easy to reach by U3 and is located in the green. A good opportunity for a little spring excursion.

Friday, May 27, the focus will be on historical works with the acousmatic performance of Stockhausen’s TELEMUSIK, the performance of MUSIC FOR FOOTPEDAL ORGAN by Yasuano Tone and accompanying lectures. Saturday, 5/28, we will use the special acoustic projection space for the joint TELE MUSICKING experiment. At both venues, experimental and electronic concerts will feature musicians* playing and exploring the quadraphonic setup of the TELEMUSIK projection live. Afterwards, the recordings will be sent back and forth and played back in the same spatial-acoustic setting in the respective other location.
In the finale, these two concerts will merge into a common New Music. Inspired by TELEMUSIK, the live remixes in Berlin and Tokyo, among others, take up the idea of ring modulation and use the recordings as mutual modulation sources. This happens live, in a free, collective and musical process called MUSICKING.

Subsequently, these concerts will also be mirrored in Berlin and Tokyo as acousmatic concerts.

The kick-off of the discourse and concert performance series „Sustainable Listening“, the Staatsoper Unter den Linden is dedicated to pressing climate and environmental issues. The concert performance forms the core: music played by musicians of the Staatskapelle Berlin, who are involved in the Orchestra of Change, merges with live electronics by the Teichmann brothers and with text contributions by the invited ocean expert Anja Engel to create an installative spatial experience.
