BEAM Festival
Brunel University 22-24 June 2012
£12-20 day pass / £35 weekend festival pass
Brunel Electronic + Analogue Music Festival is an electronic music
weekender open to everyone passionate about music, technology and
performance.
BEAM was founded by Dr Sarah Nicolls, Senior Lecturer in Music at
Brunel University, to showcase some of the most exciting music-making
inventions and technologies from around the world to local audiences
in Hillingdon. Nicolls says:
“BEAM is all about getting involved and making sound with whatever is
available – creating your own instruments to make your own music. A
musical background or technical education isn’t required, as long as
you are ready to challenge your perspective on musical performance.”
Celebrating all forms of electronic music, BEAM includes work from
cutting edge international performers, amateur electronic instrument
builders and emerging artists who responded to the festival’s open call.
Throughout the BEAM weekend, from Friday 22th to Sunday 24th June,
there will be performances, interactive installations and workshops,
with something new and exciting for everyone to take part in. The
Festival also includes an all-night ‘sleepover’ performance on
Saturday night, exploring the sounds of the ocean depths, glacial
crevices and Arctic tundra, by Jana Winderen, and festival-goers can
try out the ‘Reactable’; a ground-breaking audio-visual instrumentmade
famous by Bjork on her 2007 tour.
Tickets for the festival start at £12, and BEAM organisers are
offering a limited number of discounted day tickets on the Saturday
for local young people attending a secondary school or sixth form in
Hillingdon (whom you may wish to bring along and introduce them to
Brunel!). To register for these discounted tickets – which are just £5
instead of the usual £20 – you should email info@beamfestival.com,
giving your name, age and which school you attend (under 14s should be
accompanied by an adult).
